Ellen von Unwerth
Ellen von Unwerth is one of the most famous German photographers of fashion photography, born in 1954 in Frankfurt at Main. The former model started her career in photography in 1986, when she took photos of native children in Kenia while being there for a photo shooting herself. Today, Ellen von Unwerth’s photos are characterized by a cool eroticism and feminity. She not already made models pose in front of her camera, but also many actors and actresses such as Emma Watson or Christian Bale. Many times, Ellen von Unwerth shows her models in sexy lingerie, playful and in action. Next to photography, she also directed music videos like Beyonce’s “Year 4” or Duran Duran’s “Electric Barbarella“.
German photographer Juergen Teller was born in 1964 in Erlangen. He started his career as a photographer by taking shots of famous musicians for their record covers. In 1991, he toured with the then almost unknown band Nirvana and took portraits of the lead singer Kurt Cobain which – years later – subsequently gained a lot of fame. Later on, he made his mark by taking photos of “imperfect” models with scars or blemishes. Many of his pictures are autobiographical. In 2004, Juergen Teller put Boris Becker and Claudia Schiffer for a Strenesse photoshoot in the limelight.
Helmut Newton was born in 1920 in Berlin as Helmut Neustädter. At the age of 18, he fled from the Nazis to Singapore. Later on, he moved to Australia where he opened his own photo studio. Helmut Newton is considered one of the most famous and greatest German photographers of all time and was especially famous for his provocative black and white nude photos. Throughout his career, he was regularly working together with Vogue fashion magazine.
Helmut Newton died in 2004 due to a car accident. After his wish, his burial place is in his birthplace Berlin.
Peter Lindbergh was born in 1944 in Lissa (today Poland). In 1978, the former window dresser and artist, moved to Paris to pursue an international career as a photographer for different fashion magazines. Most of his pictures are in black/ white and inspired by old German movies and the Berlin art scene of the 1920s. In 1988, the German photographer shot the cover photo for Anna Wintour’s first Vogue edition. His portraits include i.a. Charlotte Rampling, Catherine Deneuve, Tina Turner, Kate Winslet, and Sharon Stone.
Karl Lagerfeld was born in 1933 in Hamburg. The former famous chief designer of the brand Chanel was also well-known for his high fashion photographs. He discovered his passion for photography in 1987. Since then, he shot photos for the champaign brand Dom Pérignon, Playboy and regularly for Chanel campaigns. Many of the pictures are in clean black and white.
