Famous German Formula 1 Drivers

In 2012, Nico Rosberg became part of a list of German Formula One drivers, who won the famous Grand Prix. Currently, there are a total of seven German Formula 1 drivers, who took the trophy home.

Michael Schumacher

Schumacher opened a new era of Formula 1. He had his first success in August 1992 and achieved around 90 more victories plus seven World Cup titles during his whole career. He is the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time.

In December 2013, Michael Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a ski accident and has since then been in medical rehabilitation. Since 1995, he is married to Corinna Schumacher with whom he has two children. Their son Mick Schumacher is also a racing driver. 

Sebastian Vettel

Since 2008, Vettel has fetched a total of four titles as the World Champion and won 44 Grand Prix (May 2017). 

His long-time girlfriend is Hanna Prater, with who he has two daughters.

Nico Rosberg

The son of the former world champion Keke Rosberg from Finland and a German mother became world champion in 2016. 

Nico Rosberg won the world championship in 2016 and – to the amazement of his fans – withdraw afterward. He is married with his former longtime girlfriend Vivian Sibold and has two daughters.

Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips

Von Trips was the first German winner in the Netherlands and England in 1961 and already on his way to the world title when he fatally injured in Monza on 10th of September 1961. During the accident, 15 people got killed and 60 injured. Berghe von Trips was thrown out of his racing car and was instantly dead by a broken neck. 

The son of a very noble family from Rhineland had diabetes and always need to eat sweet snacks during his races. He was a studied agriculturist.

Jochen Maas

Maas won his only race in 1975 at the aborted Grand Prix at the Montjuic in Barcelona.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen

Frentzen celebrated his first victory in 1997 with Williams, two more followed in 1999 with Jordan.

He is half German and half Spanish. Frentzen started cart driving at the age of 13.

Ralf Schumacher

Ralf Schumacher won six races for BMW-Williams between 2001 and 2003.

Ralf Schumacher is the younger brother of Michael Schumacher. Until 2015, he was married to Cora Schumacher. The two have a son together.
