Germany is a very multicultural country. Thats why many celebrities in different fields have an immigration background – may it be that they are half German, their parents are from two completely different countries or the same. Here are six German Indian celebrities:

Indira Weis

Indira Weis was born in 1979 and is a German singer, actress and tv-personality, She became famous in 2001, when she took part at a casting show called Popstars, through which she finally became part of the band Bro’Sis. She left the band in 2003.

After a two year stay to study Hebrew and the Torah in a women Yeshiva in Jerusalem, she converted to Judaism.

In 2011, Indira Weis took part at the German version of I’m a Celebrity…Get me out of Here!, where she started a relationship with British-Pakistani singer Jay Khan.

Indira Weis is especially famous for her controversial statements and tv as well as social media appearances. Amongst other things, she appeared in Playboy magazine, wanted to become a Bollywoodstar in India or an actor in Hollywood. In 2014, she released a famous twerking-video.

Indira Weis Indian mother is a translator and her German father a teacher.

Collien Ulmen-Fernandes

Collien Ulmen-Fernandes, born in 1981, is a German-Indian tv-presenter and actress, who became famous in 2001 as a presenter for the German teen tv show Bravo TV. From then on, the success of the then 19 year old became even greater and – next to her ongoing career as a tv presenter – she also started appearing in German movies, soap operas and tv series. In 2008, during the peak of her career, she got her own docusoap next to German-Turkish tv presenter Gülcan Kamps called Gülcan und Collien ziehen aufs Land, which was considered as the German version of the US tv show The Simple Life.

Colliens father is from Goa, while her mother is German.

In 2011, she married German actor, producer and satirist Christian Ulmen. Since 2012, both are parents of a daughter.

Ranga Jogeshwar

Ranga Jogeshwar was born in 1959 in Luxembourg is a famous tv presenter in Germany. He studied experimental physics at RWHT Aachen and started working in publishing houses after graduating from university. In 1985, during a stay in India, he conducted seminars and conferences at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. 

Ranga Jogeswhar is especially famous as a tv presenter for scientific broadcasts such as Quarks & Co. since 2003 or Wissen vor Acht since 2008 in which he explains everything in a very easy way from scratch.

Ranga Joeswhars Indian father was an engineer and his Luxembourgish mother an art historian. His Indian grandfather was S. R. Ranganathan, inventor of the Colon-Classifikation (CC).

Ranga Jogeswhar is married with the German soprano Ursula Jogeswhar with whom he has four children together. Ranga Jogeswhars brother is also physicist, who holds a PhD.

Nandini Mitra

Nadini Mitra was born in 1975 and is a German tv presenter. Her most famous shows are Summer Special Beach House on MTV between 1997 and 2001 or Fit for Fun TV between 2001 and 2006. Since 2012, she is presenting the Bundesliga on the sports channel Eurosport 2.

Nandini Mitra is the daugter of an Indian draper and a German mother, who was a senior teacher.

In 2002, she appeared on the cover of German Playboy magazine. She holds a university degree in Journalism.

Sabrina Setlur

Sabrina Setlur was born in 1974 and is – according to her sold records – the most famous German rapper. She is the daughter of Indian immigrants and was born in Frankfurt at Main. After dropping out of university, where she was matriculated in the subject Business Administration, she started her career as a rapper. During the peak time of her career between 1995 and 2007, Sabrina Setlur released five studio albums called S ist soweit, Die neue S-Klasse, Aus der Sicht und mit den Worten von…, Sabs und Rot.

In 2001, Sabrina Setlur was in a short relationship with former tennis profi Boris Becker.

Julia-Niharika Sen

Julia Niharika Sen was born in 1967. She is a tv presenter and journalist. The studied anglicist and romanist started working for NDR ( = Norddeutscher Rundfunk, North German broadcasting) in 1999., where she is mainly presenting topics about nature and culture.

Her father is Tapan-Kumar Sen from India, who came to Germany in 1965. He is on the board of the German Indian Society (DIG) in Hamburg. Julia-Niharika’s German mother met her father during an Indian music night in Hamburg.

Julia-Niharika Sen has two children and lives in Hamburg. She is a co-founder of the Association of Friends of Children Tara for Children e.V., which  strongly supports disadvantaged women and children in India in local aid and school projects.
